Janet Mayo
Artist
Janet's paintings portray an emotional reaction to her surroundings using atmosphere, light and colour to create a sense of the place or subject.
While she paints mainly in watercolour she also enjoys using ink, charcoal, pastels and acrylics as alternative media.
Janet has been painting since childhood but only in the past few years has she started to take it more seriously and exhibit her work.
Janet won a number of awards as a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists. Her work has also been selected for the Annual City Gallery Exhibitions in Leicester. She has also won prizes at the annual ArtForm Summer Exhibitions in Woodhouse Eaves.
In 2010 she won the Open Prize at the Melbourne Festival and then become a regular solo exhibitor at the Festival.
In 2011 Janet held a solo exhibition at the Ferrers Gallery, Staunton Harold, Derbys and has since held many solo and joint exhibitions and sales in various parts of the East Midlands.
As well as painting in the UK Janet spends much of her time in Gozo, Malta where she enjoys capturing the different light and architecture of the island. She sells her work on Gozo.
A Shropshire lass by birth, Janet has lived in the East Midlands for most of her life, working as a broadcaster for many years, first on BBC Radio Leicester and later becoming a familiar face as a news presenter and journalist on BBC TV East Midlands Today.
Her voice was selected as the first to be used for announcements on the London Underground trains on the Central Line and has been heard on many corporate and training videos since.
